I received my Ph.D. in Economics from York University in June 2007. My dissertation, “Essays on Mixed Oligopoly,” was completed under the advisement of Professors Mahmudul Anam, Shin-Hwan Chiang, and Alfred Haug.
After graduating from York University, I joined the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) as a Research Economist in December 2007. While working at the QCB, I also served as an Economic Consultant to the Qatar National Food Security Programme from February 2010 to August 2012. My tenure with the QCB ended in June 2013 followed by a brief period of unemployment during July–December 2013. I joined Fikra Research & Policy, based in Qatar, as a Senior Research Fellow, serving from January 2014 to October 2016.
However, for the most part of my tenure with Fikra, I worked as a non-resident fellow since I moved to Bangladesh in April 2014. In January 2015, I joined the Department of Economics at East West University as an Associate Professor. From September 2016 to April 2019, I served as Chair of the Department of Economics. In July 2019, I became a Professor of Economics.
My writing has appeared, among others, in the Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Energy Economics, Global Environmental Change, Economics of Transition, Journal of Forecasting, and Journal of Time Series Econometrics. My current research interests focus on the areas of energy and financial markets, forecasting, and empirical microeconomics.
While I have done research more than teaching, I actually love teaching. I entered the economics profession because of some great teachers. As a teacher today, I am trying to repay this debt.
