Dr. Muntasir Chaudhury is an Associate Professor of Economics at East West University (EWU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Canadian-trained economist specializing in microeconomic theory, market design, and environmental economics. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Concordia University in Canada, where his doctoral research focused on affirmative action and fair school-choice mechanisms for minority students. He also holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Guelph, Canada, and a B.Sc. in Economics from North South University, Bangladesh.
With over two decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Chaudhury has established himself as a dedicated educator, researcher, and academic leader. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in economics in both Bangladesh and Canada, including advanced microeconomics, game theory, environmental economics, and mathematical economics. His commitment to teaching excellence has been complemented by an active research agenda spanning economic design, matching theory, experimental economics, environmental valuation, and climate change economics.
As Chairperson of the Department of Economics at East West University (2023–2025), Dr. Chaudhury led several strategic initiatives to strengthen academic quality and institutional development. He played a pivotal role in curriculum reform, the development of new graduate programs, and the establishment of the Master's program in Environment and Climate Action. He also contributed significantly to the preparation of the Department of Economics for the university's successful ACBSP accreditation.
Driven by the belief that academic work should create meaningful societal impact, Dr. Chaudhury continues to pursue excellence in teaching, research, and institutional leadership while contributing to the advancement of economics education and policy research in Bangladesh and beyond.
