The Finance Discipline of the Department of Business Administration, East West University, organized a guest lecture on “Practices of Loan Management in Bangladesh” on 28 July 2026 at the Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery for the students of Managerial Finance, Section 1 and 2. The session aimed to connect students’ classroom learning with the practical realities of lending and credit management in Bangladesh.

The guest speaker was Mr. Md. Abdul Mannan, former Managing Director of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC). During his extensive career in the banking sector, he has also served as Managing Director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and Karmasangsthan Bank, and Deputy Managing Director of Sonali Bank Limited.

The session began with a welcome address by Professor Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury of the Department of Business Administration, who highlighted the importance of connecting academic knowledge with industry experience and welcomed the guest speaker.

Drawing on his professional experience, Mr. Mannan discussed the practical process of loan management, covering borrower assessment, credit appraisal, loan approval, disbursement, monitoring, and recovery. He also shared insights into credit risk, responsible lending and borrowing, and contemporary issues affecting Bangladesh’s financial sector. Through practical examples, he demonstrated how financial concepts studied in the classroom are applied in real-world lending decisions.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and discuss various aspects of lending and financial-sector practices. Faculty members of the Finance Discipline were also present. The event was part of the Discipline’s continuing effort to strengthen the connection between academic learning and industry practice.
