Guest Speakers’ Session on “Telecom Unplugged: Comprehensive Overview of The Industry”

On 16th November 2024, the MBA Club of East West University organized an enlightening seminar titled “Telecom Unplugged: A Comprehensive Overview of the Industry.” The guests of the session were Ms. Sanjida Jahan Afnan, who is a manager of digital strategy & roadmap at Robi Axiata Limited, and Mr. Chowdhury Wafee Darait, who is also a manager of trade marketing analytics & insights at Robi Axiata Limited. During the session, both guests shared their experiences and expertise on how the telecom industry operates their business and the journey of the telecom industry from the inception to the era of digital transformation and strategies on how they differentiate themselves from others.

This insightful session was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. M Sayeed Alam (Coordinator, EMBA & MBA Programs, Department of Business Administration, EWU) and facilitated by Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration at East West University Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman Sarker. This session provided a great opportunity for the students to connect with the industry specialist and know the real-world scenarios.

Mr. Chowdhury Wafee Darait, Manager of Trade Marketing Analytics & Insights, kicked off the seminar by discussing the evolving landscape of telecom marketing. He explored the growing importance of data analytics in shaping marketing strategies, emphasizing how telecom companies use customer insights to tailor services and improve customer experiences. Mr. Darait also highlighted the challenges of staying ahead in a rapidly changing market, especially as customer expectations evolve and competition intensifies. He touched on the role of digital transformation in revolutionizing telecom marketing, underscoring how companies like Robi are leveraging new technologies to reach wider audiences and enhance brand loyalty.

Following Mr. Darait, Ms. Sanjida Jahan Afnan, Manager of Digital Strategy & Roadmap at Robi, delved into the critical role of digital transformation within the telecom industry. Ms. Afnan’s presentation focused on the future of telecom, particularly in the context of emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, and artificial intelligence. She discussed how Robi’s digital strategy aims to integrate these technologies to not only improve operational efficiency but also to offer innovative solutions that meet the growing demands of consumers. Ms. Afnan also addressed the challenges companies face in implementing these technologies, including infrastructure costs, regulatory hurdles, and the need for continuous innovation.

A question-and-answer session was also held where students from MBA and BBA (EMBA-503, HRM-521, HRM 301, HRM-413) actively participated in positioning their thoughtful questions for gaining valuable knowledge on the telecom industry from the experts.

The seminar provided a thorough overview of both the strategic and operational aspects of the telecom industry. It gave attendees a deeper understanding of how industry leaders are navigating technological advancements, customer demands, and market competition. The event also served as an excellent networking opportunity, allowing professionals to engage directly with the speakers and peers, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
