Seminar on FMCG and Agrochemical Supply Chain at East-West University
On January 08, 2024, the Department of Business Administration at East-West University hosted an insightful seminar as part of the Supply Chain Management (MKT 418) course. The session was titled "An Overview of FMCG and Agrochemical Supply Chain," and it was conducted by Mr. Md. Faqrul Hoque, Assistant Manager, Distribution & Customer Service at Syngenta Bangladesh Limited. With extensive professional experience in the FMCG and agrochemical industries, Mr. Faqrul provided invaluable insights into the complexities and dynamics of supply chain operations. The session was attended by Mr. Md. Anamul Hoque, the faculty member of the course, along with an enthusiastic audience of students.
The seminar began with an introduction to the structure and flow of supply chains in both the FMCG and agrochemical sectors. Mr. Hoque detailed the supply chain flow in FMCG, covering key stages from raw material (RM) and packaging material (PM) suppliers, procurement operations, and inbound logistics to manufacturing, distribution, and final delivery to consumers. He highlighted the critical role of depots, warehouses, and distributors in ensuring efficient and timely product delivery.
Mr. Hoque explained the agrochemical supply chain's unique structure, emphasizing the local distribution networks in regions like Bogura, Chittagong, Dhaka, and Jessore. He described the primary and secondary logistics processes, including the importance of planning and customer operation management in handling retail orders and serving farmers. His discussion gave students a comparative perspective on the complexities of managing supply chains in two distinct but interconnected industries.
The session also featured practical examples and real-world challenges, such as navigating logistics disruptions and optimizing procurement operations. Students gained a deeper understanding of how supply chain management adapts to industry-specific needs while maintaining operational efficiency.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, during which students had the opportunity to engage directly with Mr. Hoque and discuss contemporary issues and solutions in supply chain management. The Department of Business Administration at East-West University continues to enrich academic learning through industry-focused seminars, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications. The session was an excellent platform for students to learn from seasoned professionals, equipping them with valuable insights for their future careers in supply chain management.
