Industry Insights: Practices of Loan Management in Bangladesh

The Finance Discipline of the Department of Business Administration, East West University, hosted an insightful guest lecture on “Practices of Loan Management in Bangladesh” on 2 December 2025 at the Jalaluddin Ahmed Lecture Gallery. The session was arranged to bridge theoretical classroom learning with real financial practices and was attended by students from FIN 435, Section 1 & 2 (Managerial Finance) and FIN 350 (Real Estate Finance).

East West University welcomed Mr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC), as the guest speaker. Renowned for his long-standing career in the banking sector, he has also held key leadership roles including Managing Director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and Karmasangsthan Bank, and Deputy Managing Director of Sonali Bank Limited.

During the event, Mr. Mannan provided a comprehensive overview of the loan management ecosystem in Bangladesh. He discussed the internal mechanisms of institutional lending, emerging trends in housing finance, risk assessment techniques, and policy changes affecting credit markets. The session also highlighted current loan schemes and emphasized the importance of responsible borrowing and lending for maintaining a stable economic system.

Mr. Mannan emphasized the need for students to stay updated on the evolving financial services landscape, stressing the value of connecting academic knowledge with real world practices. By sharing examples from his extensive professional experience, he helped students understand how textbook concepts apply to the day-to-day operational challenges faced in the banking sector.

The session began with a welcome address by Professor Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury of the Department of Business Administration, who highlighted the department’s commitment to fostering a practice-oriented learning environment. Faculty members from the Finance Discipline, Department of Business Administration were also present, offering their support and encouragement.

An engaging question and answer segment marked the end of the session, allowing students to interact directly with the speaker and deepen their understanding of loan management practices. The Finance Discipline expressed appreciation to Mr. Mannan for sharing his expertise and reaffirmed its dedication to arranging more industry-focused events to advance the professional readiness of students.
