An Expert Session on “Accounting as a Career Path: Opportunities, Professional Growth, and Impact”
An Expert Session on “Accounting as a Career Path: Opportunities, Professional Growth, and Impact” was held at the S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery, East West University. This session made the students understand why accounting is significant in the current modern organizations and why they can use accounting to aid financial records to ensure transparency, and accountability.
The expert session was held with Mr. Md. Fajlul Karim, ACA who is a respected individual in the area of Accounting and Finance. He is currently working as a Senior Manager, Finance and Accounts (Head of Department) at Kallol Group of Companies. He also made the discussion more practical and meaningful sharing his work experience at such well- known organizations as BRAC and KPMG Bangladesh.
The speaker described that accounting is not simply about recording financial transactions. He talked about key areas, which included financial statements, cost accounting, budgeting, taxation and internal control systems. He discussed factual scenarios of how organizations employ accounting to gauge performance and make superior decisions that result into value in contemporary world.
The speaker talked about the pathways of CA, CMA and CS which can assist students in developing good technical skills, ethical standards and worldwide identity in the accounting profession. In his opinion, the completion of CA or CMA provides a wide range of career opportunities. He further elaborated on some of the financial tools and processes such as Cloud Based ERP Systems, Robotic Process Automation etc., as well as gave his ideas on the future of accounting career in 2030. He said that accountants will not just perform conventional bookkeeping but collaborate with technologies, data analytics, and artificial intelligence-based systems. Finally, he has mentioned some of the successful individuals in the accounting profession including M. Saifur Rahman FCA, Ali Hossain Akber Ali FCA, Parveen Mahmud FCA. The speaker also emphasized the life-long accounting education. According to him, the significance of accounting in the contemporary society is to make sure that there is improved business planning in terms of rules and regulations, which results in improved decision-making.
The department of Business Administration, East West university, organized the session and this was under the coordination of Ms. Nusrat Jahan Toma, Lecturer, East West University. There was a question and answer session in which students were free to ask questions regarding the accounting careers, future in the field of accounting and how they can equip themselves to be in the field.
The session was in general valuable and involving. It made the students comprehend much more practical information of accounting, it provided them with clear ideas of how the accounting is applied in the modern business world to become successful.
