The Department of Business Administration, organized an expert session on “Accounting in Practice: A Reality Check - From Textbook to The Corporate Floor”
The Department of Business Administration, East West University organized an expert session titled “Accounting in Practice: A Reality Check - From Textbook to The Corporate Floor” on June 25, 2026, at the Jalaluddin Ahmed Lecture Gallery, East West University, Dhaka. The theme of the seminar was “Bridging Theory and Corporate Reality for BBA students”. This session made the students understand how the accounting ideas they learn in their classroom are used in real business organization and corporate world.
The seminar was conducted by Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam, CAP, Head of Group Internal Audit & Compliance at Kallol Group of Companies. He is a Certified Accounting Professional by ICAB, an Ex-KPMG professional, a CA Finalist, and has also completed CMA partly. Through his professional experience he shared valuable knowledge about accounting professions and what challenges accounting students face in the corporate sectors.
During the seminar, the speaker explained how different accounting topics are used in real business world. He discussed important topics such as budgeting, forecasting, capital budgeting, financial statement analysis, variance analysis, pricing decisions, cost benefit analysis, break-even analysis, internal control, auditing and compliance monitoring. He used practical examples like how companies use budgeting to plan expenses and profits, forecasting to predict future performance, financial analysis to evaluate business condition and break-even analysis to determine the level of sales that control the level of losses. These examples help students to get ideas about how to make effective business decisions and use accounting strategies.
The speaker also talked about professional qualifications such as CA, CMA and ACCA and explained the career opportunities available in the accounting field. He shared useful advice about technical skills that help students including ERP software, Excel, financial reporting, communication skills and ethical behavior of working environment.
In addition, he discussed some common challenges faced by accounting professionals in the corporate world such as meeting deadlines, maintaining accuracy in financial records, complying with laws and regulations and adapting with technological changes, automation also artificial intelligence. He emphasized that continuous learning and professional integrity are essential for long term success in the accounting field.
The seminar was organized by Ms. Nusrat Jahan Toma, Lecturer, Department of Business Administration, East West University. At the end of session, students actively participated in question answer’s part where they knew about accounting careers, professional qualifications etc.
Overall, the seminar was informative, practical and engaging. It helped students to connect their theoretical learning with real world applications and prepare themselves for future careers.
