Sir Partha Dasgupta gives a public lecture on “The Role of Nature in Economic Development” organized by the Department of Economics, East West University
On 11th December 2022, Department of Economics, East West University organized a public lecture titled “The Role of Nature in Economic Development” by renowned economist Sir Partha Dasgupta, Frank Ramsey Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Cambridge. Sir Partha Dasgupta’s body of work on Economics of Poverty and Nutrition, Environmental Economics, Economic Measurement and Economics of Knowledge has received global acclaim and international accolades. The lecture was graced by Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Academic Adviser; Professor Dr. Abul H. M. G. Azam, Professor-cum-Adviser; Department of Business Administration, Professor A. K. Enamul Haque; Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty members and students of East West University.
Sir Partha Dasgupta addressed the importance of keeping a balance between nature and global production and how crucial it is to measure the regulatory and maintenance services of natural ecosystem. He further stressed that the externalities on the nature maybe offset if we appropriately value nature and reflect it through correct pricing strategy. The lecture was followed by a lively and interactive Q/A session. Later, he visited the Department of Economics and spent some time with Members of Faculty and the students. Sir was extremely pleased to see the vibrant faces of the young economic students and hopes to revisit in near future.
