Department of Business Administration, East-West University, arranged a study tour as a part of the course Strategic Management (MGT 480). A total of 192 students visited the PRAN Industrial Park (PIP) located in Palash Narsigndi - one of the largest and most modern factories in South Asia on 29th December, 2022. The tour to PIP enabled the students to see the industrial activities and management of more than 30,000 workers working at different factories. They were accompanied by 12 faculty members of the department, namely, Md. Kamrul Hassan, Assistant Professor; Ms. Kohinoor Biswas, Assistant Professor; Md. Farhan Faruqui, Assistant Professor; Dr. Ruman Afroze, Assistant Professor; Dr. Md. Rashidul Islam, Assistant Professor; Mr. Shakib Hossain Shuvo, Senior Lecturer; Ms. Nahrin Binte Rab, Senior Lecturer; Mr. Rashedul Hasan, Senior Lecturer; Ms. Nayema Sultana, Senior Lecturer; Mr. Tanveer Kabir, Senior Lecturer; Md. The students were warmly welcomed and briefed about PIP by the company management and officials through an introductory session followed by a physical visit to the different production facilities at PIP such as the RFL thread pipes and pipe accessories processing unit, chair production unit, floor mat production unit, etc. Through this visit, students have been able to get practical experience with different types of production systems namely- automated and semi-automated mass production systems, assembly lines, automated packaging, etc., and different aspects of the real-life workplaces, work methods, employment practices, and so on. The students have shown their inquisitiveness and enthusiasm by participating actively and making different queries. The officials, unit managers, and engineers of PIP were eager and meticulous to answer all the questions of our students. The faculty members enjoyed the tour alike and helped the students to understand things to create a congenial learning environment with real-life illustrations. As such, this tour provided the students with a perfect reality check along with exposure to current work practices in modern manufacturing establishments like PIP as opposed to theoretical knowledge being taught in their classrooms.
