Study Tour at Coca-Cola Manufacturing Plant, Comilla, Spring - 2023

The Department of Business Administration at East-West University arranged a study tour as part of the course Strategic Management (MGT 480). A total of 187 students visited the Coca-Cola Manufacturing Plant, located in the AML Beverage Unit, Comilla - one of the largest and most modern factories in South Asia on March 16, 2023. The tour of the Coca-Cola Manufacturing Plant enabled the students to see the industrial activities and management of a large workforce working at different segments of factories. They were accompanied by 12 faculty members of the department, namely, Dr. Md. Rashidul Islam, Associate Professor; Md. Kamrul Hassan, Assistant Professor; Ms. Kohinoor Biswas, Assistant Professor; Md. Farhan Faruqui, Assistant Professor; Ms. Silvia Akter, Assistant Professor; Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Assistant Professor; Muhammad Ataur Rahman; Senior Lecturer; Leo Vashkor Dewri, Senior Lecturer; Ms. Nayema Sultana, Senior Lecturer; Md. Humayun Kabir, Senior Lecturer; Ms. Sunny Saha, Senior Lecturer and Md. Miad Uddin Fahim, Lecturer.

The students were warmly welcomed and briefed about the Coca-Cola Manufacturing Plant by the company management and officials through an introductory session followed by a physical visit to the different production facilities at the plant, such as the bottle-producing units; various beverage production units including Fanta, Coke and Sprite; the pouring unit; the assembly units; the packaging and leveling units etc. Through this visit, students have been able to get practical experience with different types of production systems, namely automated and semi-automated mass production systems, assembly lines, automated packaging etc., and different aspects of the real-life workplace including work methods, employment practices, and so on. The students have shown their inquisitiveness and enthusiasm by participating actively and making different queries. The officials, unit managers and engineers of the plant were eager and meticulous in answering all the questions of our students. The faculty members enjoyed the tour alike and helped the students understand things to create a congenial learning environment with real-life illustrations. As such, this tour provided the students with a perfect reality check along with exposure to current work practices in modern manufacturing establishments like the Coca-Cola Manufacturing Plant as opposed to the theoretical knowledge being taught in their classrooms.
