Expert Session on "Human Resource Planning and Compliance"
On January 9, 2025, East West University's Department of Business Administration hosted an insightful expert session for HRM students. The session, called “Human Resource Planning and Compliance,” was facilitated byMr. Kazi Tanvir Ahmed, Manager of Human Resources at Superstar Group Limited. The event took place at the Nausher Ali Lecture Gallery, starting at 3:05 PM, as part of the HRM 411 course curriculum.
Mr. Ahmed shared his expertise on various aspects of HRM, providing practical insights into effective resource planning, compliance, and workforce management. The session covered a wide range of topics including organizational structure design, manpower requisition, job analysis, and strategies for enhancing employee performance.
The session provided a comprehensive overview of key HR practices, beginning with organizational structures, where Mr. Kazi Tanvir Ahmed emphasized the significance of organograms in illustrating company hierarchies, roles, and interactions. He discussed workforce optimization strategies, including determining the ideal number of employees for each role, addressing vacancies efficiently, and preventing overstaffing to ensure operational excellence. Manpower requisition was highlighted as a critical element of workforce management. Mr. Ahmed explained the process of identifying vacant positions, creating formal requisition forms, and ensuring these requests are justified to avoid unnecessary staffing. He emphasized budget planning for new hires to align staffing needs with financial objectives while meeting operational demands. The session also focused on salary budgets and the concept of Cost to Company (CTC). Mr. Ahmed elaborated on balancing competitive compensation with profitability, explaining that CTC includes gross salary, benefits, bonuses, and other expenses. This holistic understanding helps HR professionals align salary budgets with organizational goals and financial sustainability. Job analysis, a cornerstone of HRM, was explored with emphasis on developing job descriptions and specifications to define roles clearly. Mr. Ahmed introduced job enlargement as a strategy to broaden responsibilities and boost engagement. He stressed the importance of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track and enhance employee performance while aligning it with organizational objectives. Succession planning was presented as vital for retaining top talent and preparing employees for leadership roles, ensuring resilience and minimizing disruptions from turnover. Recruitment and onboarding strategies were discussed, including the benefits of outsourcing certain roles to optimize costs while acquiring necessary expertise. Addressing leadership gaps and fostering employee development were emphasized as critical for long-term growth. The session concluded with the importance of compliance and safety standards. Mr. Ahmed highlighted HR’s role in maintaining an ethical and compliant workplace by implementing environmental, health, and safety measures. These initiatives ensure legal compliance and create a safe, healthy work environment, contributing to employee well-being and organizational integrity.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where students had the opportunity to interact directly with Mr. Ahmed. Questions ranged from how to start a career in the HRM sector to strategies for professional growth in the field.
