Dr. Md. Ariful Islam has recently joined the Department of Business Administration of EWU as a Professor taking leave from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Professor Islam had been working as a senior Professor (Professor (Grade-1)) in the department of Industrial and Production Engineering, SUST. He has been in university teaching profession for more than 27 Years. He became Professor at SUST in 2012. He has also teaching experience for four years in a globally reputed university where he taught Engineering Management, Engineering Design, Technology Management and Engineering Mechanics courses.
Professor Islam has gained substantial working experience in university administration (governance and management) as a Syndicate Member, Academic Council Member, Dean of a large Engineering Faculty (composed of nine engineering disciplines comprising the Department of Architecture, Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Engineering and Tea Technology, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Petroleum and Mining Engineering). Professor Islam severed as the Head of the department of Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial and Production Engineering, SUST for three years of each. He possesses a proven track record on academic leadership, strong academic and research background, a good number of publications in reputed Journals, experience in funded research projects, experience with BAETE as a program evaluator, and finally knowledge and experience in quality assurance and international accreditation process.
Dr. Islam is well equipped with rewarding experience and expertise on academic program development starting from the scrape. He worked for curriculum development in SUST, BUET, RUET and others. He worked as a Member of Selection Board (for Teachers) of three reputed public universities in the country. He maintain high work standards and uphold professional ethics wherever he works. He retains entrepreneurial outlook with considerable expertise in entrepreneurship development. Professor Islam belongs to a considerable global exposure in professional research and teaching in internationally reputed universities. I keep myself equipped with up-to-date knowledge on teaching and research including interdisciplinary research, hands on learning and community-responsive technology development.
Professor Islam possesses strong academic background. He has obtained higher educational degrees from globally reputed universities that place themselves within top ranked tiers in QS and Times Higher Education ranking system. He did his PhD from the University of Auckland, New Zealand as an International Doctoral Scholar under the Scholarship Program of New Zealand Government through the UoA for four years. He has obtained Master of Engineering (by Research) degree as a Research Scholar from the National University of Singapore under the Scholarship Program of Singapore Government through NUS for two years. Earlier, he obtained his BSc. Engineering Degree (in Mechanical), and Master of Engineering Degree (in Industrial and Production Engineering) from two reputed engineering universities in Bangladesh. All through his academic studies, Dr. Islam secured First Class result all through placing himself in top tier in the merit list in his academic degree programs. He has published a good number of research articles in internationally referred Journals and reputed Conference proceedings. His research works are mainly focused on Engineering Management, Process and System Optimization, Operations Management and Supply Chain Management. Blended knowledge and skills on Industrial and Production Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering drive Dr. Islam to be involved in multidisciplinary research projects that could solve socio-economic problems of the country linked to global needs and development path. Meaningful contribution to Industrial Development in both Manufacturing and Service Industries is his professional commitment.
In a nutshell, Professor Md. Ariful Islam has substantial knowledge and expertise in strategic and operational activities involved in academic and administrative management in higher education system including academic leadership, planning and development, financial management, recruitment and selection, program development and assessment, innovative and creative drive for developing world class learning environment, outcome-based learning and assessment, and driving for continuous improvement widely demanded by a thriving university. Personally, he is a hardworking, punctual, self-motivated, proactive and responsible person with an outgoing and friendly personality and possessing excellent communication skills who enjoys meeting challenges and seeing them through, while remaining confident and good-humored under pressure.
